I feel it's a bit of an indictment on the absence of creative flair within Woolies management, TAGK - it wouldn't take much imagination to re-invent the brand & launch an aggressive marketing campaign to make it appealing to shoppers once again - after all they have the very best high street locations up n' down the land.
Sadly, it appears the people at the top are also stuck in the cosy rosy past, imagining the brand itself a perpetual gravy train that'll sell itself no matter what. Of course they'll get fat payoffs & new positions elsewhere - for the 30,000 staff it's a different matter.
So they'll just have to tune in to your uplifting channels this Christmas for some spiritual significance, Ms Astral !

That sheep looks very excited at the prospect of saving all that dosh.
But what's she gonna do with it?
In theory Woolies was a great general store. Notice I said in theory. But it needed an inspirational kick up the sweet aisle to keep trade flourishing. I loved the place but it was looking sad and very tired.....the Mill Hill branch looked liked a poorer version of a Mumbai bazaar before the terrorist activities.-

Absolutely right Chris', apparently it was asking overmuch of its plodding senior management to come up with a semblance of inspirational marketing strategy for re-inventing the ailing brand.
State of the sheep nation and all that...-

It's a shame tho' isn't it?
It was a right of passage for all us forty-somethings to regale each other with stories re sweet mis-appropriation from Woolies. I mean just about everyone I know has nicked something from Woolies. Excluding me and your goodself of course.-

Blush! Shame! I actually nicked a Woolies pear drop when I was 8 and haven't been able to shake off the terrible guilt since, it's ruining my life.

OK I put my hands up...I nicked a plastic kangaroo keyring...
It was the only thing worth taking 40 years ago, and having had a butchers around in the wonder that is Woolies yesterday, I think I made the right choice...
The bottom has fallen out of the pickn'mix bag...er...market...

So you're the one who nicked the famous Woolies plastic kangaroo keyring! OMG!
The bizzies have been trying to solve that heinous crime for years... I'd leave the country straight away & change your ID if I were you ruby'.... they'll be on to you now!
It'll be a minimum of 20 years sentence to hard labour wrapping sweets in the stripey place if you're caught in possession you know

And you must be that one stray lamb that won't go with the flock. Even to Woolies! Shearing may be in order.
PS Sue them!
